Men's Physiology & Training
Balancing high-volume endurance running with testosterone maintenance and muscle preservation.
Preventing Muscle Catabolism
A common trap for male endurance athletes—especially marathoners and ultra-runners—is muscle catabolism. High-volume, high-heart-rate running strips away muscle mass and spikes cortisol, which can severely deplete natural testosterone levels.
At Fit-Fitter, we program to protect your endocrine system. We strictly separate our aerobic base-building days from our track interval days to prevent cortisol overload, and mandate hypertrophy and strength blocks.
The Protocol
- Cortisol Management: Keeping Sunday long runs strictly in Zone 2 to prevent excessive central nervous system fatigue.
- Anabolic Stimulus: Heavy compound movements (squats, deadlifts, weighted lunges) to trigger natural testosterone release.
- Fueling Windows: Immediate post-run protein and carbohydrate intake to halt the catabolic breakdown process.
Spinal Decompression & Joint Longevity
Men often carry more upper body mass, which creates a heavier footstrike and increased vertical oscillation while running. This sends massive shockwaves up the tibia, into the knees, and ultimately compresses the lumbar spine.
Our mandatory mobility sessions focus on decompressing the L4-L5 vertebrae, stretching the hip flexors (psoas), and strengthening the gluteus medius to stabilize the pelvis during heavy footfalls.
